The TEDxRNCM audience were utterly captured through Leigh’s account. This wasn’t just an account however, but an experience. Eloquently delivered but with real personality, Leigh gave inspiration, insight, enjoyment and even humour – a talk I won’t be forgetting for a long time
Hayley Parkes, TEDx Event Organiser
The young people of Kingsmead School are generally from disadvantaged backgrounds and have low aspirations for their future. Leigh held the attention of the young people superbly, he was entertaining and funny and the pupils engagement was not lost at all. I would heartily recommend Leigh and his inspirational story to anyone, it left pupils and staff inspired and awestruck.
Huw Lloyd, Assistant Headteacher, Kingsmead School
As a headteacher, I constantly seek ways to inspire and motivate the pupils and staff at school and you were one of the most memorable and inspiring visitors I have had the pleasure of inviting to school… The way you delivered and presented your story to the children was so enthralling, providing practical examples of the qualities we are trying to instill in our pupils, qualities including resilience, endurance, determination and showing courage in the face of adversity, to name but a few.
Rob Hull, Headteacher, Kilburn Junior School
Leigh Timmis attended our school to give a presentation on his incredible one-man journey across the globe. Leigh was very humble about his feat which allowed the children to relate to him on a personal level. All 103 children were engaged throughout his presentation and in awe of what Leigh has achieved. They were so inspired, they asked for autographs and voted for our class to be named after him next year as an “inspiring sports person from around the world”
Mr Shaun Barker, Wyndham Primary Academy, Derby
Wow. Utterly, wow. Leigh certainly was inspirational and indeed such a breath of fresh air, he created such a buzz around the school. I was impressed by not only the attendance of staff and parents, but the volume of students who came along. Thank you – Leigh really has touched and motivated a lot of our students
Roberta Keys, Deputy Headteacher, Malvern College
Leigh is a natural communicator, using humour and his modest personality, Leigh’s account of his fascinating experiences was delivered in a completely natural way that immediately connected with both the students and the teachers.
Claire Tresidder, Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School Ashbourne Academy
Leigh spoke to Years 7 and 8 in assembly, and then to Years 9 and 10 in year groups. He was humorous, engaging and inspiring and at ease with the varied questions from the groups. His stories were rich in experience and meaning and inspired students and staff alike. We asked Leigh to meet with a small group of students who are club cyclists and he offered his passion and enthusiasm, to those who might one day follow his path. It was a brilliant morning and we would be delighted to welcome Leigh back to work with other students.
Paula Bailey, St John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy, Kirk Hallam
Despite having only just arrived home after seven years cycling around the world, Leigh delivered one of the most professional and engaging talks at the festival this year. It was clear that Leigh had put a lot of thought into what he wanted to convey in his talk, carefully pulling out the key stories and themes from all his years on the road. Leigh’s talk was engaging throughout and delivered with a real sense of humility.
